Description
OSSIP GABRILOWITSCH (1878-1936)Russian Pianist and conductor
1918-1936 Conductor of Detroit Symphony
This is a letter to Mrs. J. J. Glessner of Chicago, Ill . discussing dinner arrangements.
She was wife of John J. Glessner (1843-1936) partner in International Harvester.
Unusual home in prestigious south Chicago is toured by thousands each year.
It is typed on Detroit Symphony Orchestra stationary and reads:
February 6, 1928
Mrs. J. J. Glessner,
1800 Prairie Avenue,
Chicago, Ill.
Dear Mrs. Glessner:
Many thanks for your cordial
invitation. I have already accepted to dine and
to go to the theatre with some Chicago friends,
Friday, the 17th, but I am going to try to change
this engagement.
Would you permit me to come
to dinner at seven, and then disappear shortly
after eight o'clock? I am afraid I will not be
able to get out of the theatre party entirely,
but I think I can arrange to dine with you, if
you will let me. May I have a word from you?
Many thanks for including
Mrs. Gabrilowitsch in your invitation, but I am
afraid it will not be possible for her to join me
on this trip to Chicago.
With most cordial greetings to
you and Mr. Glessner,
Sincerely yours,
Ossip Gabrilowitsch
