    After initial tuition in Cracow, Friedman became a pupil of Leschetizky in Vienna. Debut 1904, rapidly becoming famous throughout Europe and America for his brilliant technique. In the years between the two World Wars lived successively in Germany and USA, dying in Australia.
    Composed numerous works for piano and made a number of transcriptions. Edited the complete Chopin for Breitkopf & Hartel (1912), and works of Schumann and Liszt for Universal. Performed chamber music with Huberman and Casals including the Beethoven trios, and is credited with having given over 3,000 concerts. His pupils included Julius Chaloff, Bruce Hungerford and Victor Schioler.
