    Description

    Flexy Ra
    cer
    model 300
A coaster with wheels for sidewalks, streets
This is a Flexy Racer model 300, a four-wheel coaster with original parts: four hubcaps, brakes, tires, rubber handle grips, great decals, and is gravity-driven.
    From 1932 until 1973,
the Flexy was the most popular ever designed for kids.
We have restored this Flexy to ride or display. This used Flexy model 300 is among the best examples for sale in a dog's age. With blue wheels, a decal and a set of rivets, this Flexy was manufactured by S.L. Allen & Co. in Philadelphia approximately 1954 to 1967.
All parts are from the manufacturer. The wood, the bumper, the wheels, the hubcaps, the tires, the brakes, the rivets, the metal braces, and all decals are original. The original Flexy Racer eagle/arrow decal on top is outstanding. The two decals underneath are great.
Three tires are in very good-plus condition, lots of rubber, no cracks. The fourth tire is in very good-minus condition -- one crack and one displaced portion (pictured). The rubber grips are in very good condition. No tears on either. Both grips have rubbing in places.
First Bookshop's owner has had a Flexy Racer model 300 since 1962. We have worked on them off and on since. This is what we did:
    * Removed rust from the ball bearings, and new greased applied.
    * Two axles were bent back.
    * The metal bumper was bent back, but you might try to bend it more.
    * Major metal parts were sandblasting, primed, three coats of enamel, and three coats of crystal clear.
    * The wooden platform was hand-sanded, transparent wood finish, and three coats of crystal clear.
    * The crystal clear enamel also helps brought some shine of the hubcaps.
Our work is by hand. We mentioned flaws. Here they are:
    * We missed small areas where the tires meet the wheels. There is some overspray on the tires.
    * There are scratches on the paint of metal parts. Try as well as we might, we still make mistakes.
    * Look at the pictures for a better view.
First Bookshop is pleased to offer to the new owner an ad for S.L. Allen products that features a Flexy Racer. It's pictured, with a full-page advertisement in a 1949 comic. The ad is 72 years old.
    T
he front steering mechanism will be removed from the wooden platform to reduce the cost of shipping. The steering mechanism can be reinstalled in less than five minutes using a adjustable wrench, pair of small pliers and a small flat-head screwdriver. Please call us if you have questions about reassembly or any other concerns about Flexys. The phone number is in the shipment box.
