Up for sale is a vintage Black & Decker U-153 Utility Jig Saw that comes with a carrying case.
This tool had been sitting in tool shed for well past a few decades... it somehow managed to survive two hurricanes that completely destroyed the sheds.
I took it out recently and tested it to find that it was working... then I decided to take it apart in order to clean it, and in doing so broke the clips that attach to the brush motors.
What I wound up doing in order to fix this issue was to solder the u shaped clamp and the wire together, thereby foregoing the need for the clip. The jig saw does operate now, however, it sounds a bit off... which would indicate that it either needs some oil or more lubrication; as I also got rid of the black gunk that had built up in the nooks and crannies of the plastic halves.
I doused the motor with some lithium grease as well as some Petroleum Jelly, which is possibly not the greatest machine based lube that you ought to be using for this kind of thing... so in short, this tool could use a proper restoration to bring it back up to speed.
The cord exhibits a few signs of wear, like some slight notches from being pressed against something, but it is still intact.
The case is also not in the greatest shape, as it has a hole along one of the edges and the case top also has a tear on the inside around the center left where the molding kind of looks like a handle.
There was also some debris rattling around on the inside at one point. I had to stick an air gun in this crack in order to blow out all that junk. Please be aware that there still might be some stuff in there... which could be bug related.
There are some stains throughout the case which I believe came about from stuff placed against the outside of it that must have been oxidized due to extreme weather. I can't really figure out what the orange marks on the inside of the case comes from, but I can only assume it must have been from the oil that the unit has in it. There is also an area on the top of the case along the bottom that appears to have some adhesive marks on it... from some of the similar listings out there, I believe this is where a paper banner with the Black & Decker logo appears or had appeared at one point, but it's no longer there.
The tool does not come with a set of instructions either. It does come with a small Allen wrench which is used for the installation/ removal of the blades.
I'm not sure this unit originally came with the Allen wrench or if that key was purchased separately, but either way it is included.
This wrench is also oxidized as well from all the years of being kept in storage. The same can be said for the parts of the jigsaw that have exposed metal; like the base plate.
Like I said before, all it needs is a little TLC to get back to proper working order. They don't build tools like this anymore, so here's your chance to own a piece of history.
